In each case, the bathrooms were worn-out, did not meet current needs and the normal weekly cleaning didn’t help!

Ann’s New Hall Bathroom

With a Jacuzzi tub that quit working years ago and a sink stopper that a plumber couldn’t fix, Lynn’s mom, Ann, was ready to remodel her hall bath. The bathroom had served her for over 31 years, but it was time for something new.

What Ann hadn’t considered was making her master bath safer for her daily use. Upon visiting her home McAdams Remodeling & Design’s, Mark and Lynn, suggested a grab bar to help her safely enter the shower. Up to that point, she had been holding onto the shower valve for balance! Upon further investigation it was discovered that previous water damage had left the vinyl floor and sub-floor vulnerable and the 31-year-old standard height toilet with an unmatched seat was looking pretty sad.

Having a more attractive guest bath was what made Ann contact McAdams Remodeling & Design, but keeping her safe became just as important.

Ray Lindsay

Ray joined us in 2008 bringing 20 years of carpentry experience and a warm smile. His favorite project is a kitchen remodel because it involves many crafts and finishes, and it makes the client so happy when it’s complete.

Ray enjoys being outdoors and currently lives on 40 acres. Originally from Gulfport, Mississippi, he settled here in the early 1970′s and we are happy to have him on our team.

Lynn Goodwin

Lynn joined us in 2006 and is often the team member you’ll connect with when you first contact our office. With seventeen years of experience in interior finish selections and a keen eye for space and color, Lynn makes choosing the right details an easy, positive experience. Lynn’s University of Washington degree in mathematics and natural talent for organization have kept our office and team running with cheerful efficiency since 2006.
Besides helping you pick the perfect styles and materials, Lynn enjoys sailing in the Puget Sound, spending time with her granddaughters, and trying out new recipes.

One of two posts

Often times when we are remodeling a home, we run into ill-placed posts. Posts can be literally in the middle of a room, making it very difficult to utilize space efficiently.

In the case of our “Second Generation Family,” this is exactly what we were facing.

Once we removed the original ceiling and were able to assess the structural needs of the home, we understood that removing the posts was not an option for our client. They were imperative to the structural integrity of the main floor and therefore the entire home.

So how do you take these two posts and turn them from eye sores into an eye pleasing attribute?

We opted to remove the original mid-century wood paneling  and wrap them with millwork. In the end, our clients had two beautiful painted wrapped posts.

Although our ideal situation would have been to remove them, we found this compromise to be a fantastic solution.

A Bad Day for Chris’ Truck

After our own Chris Guempel’s truck caught fire last month as he was meeting with a client at their home, much discussion was had as to whether utilization of a fire extinguisher could have saved it. After learning the details, it was understood that by the time the fire was discovered, the fire extinguisher was caught right in the middle of it and the only answer was to wait for the fire department. Needless to say, it was not a good day for Chris or his truck.

In past newsletters and blogs, we have talked about fire safety and the importance of smoke detectors however, we have never written about fire extinguishers. After Chris’ experience, we felt this to be a very important topic.

Were you aware that there are five different types of fires and up to 8 different types of fire extinguishers? Did you know that not all fires can be extinguished with the same type of fire extinguisher?  In fact, by utilizing the wrong fire extinguisher on a fire, you can make the fire worse allowing it to spread and / or allow the fire to start again after it appears to be out.

All we can say is that we are so glad Chris was not in his vehicle when the fire started, that someone noticed the fire, called 911 and notified Chris and the homeowner. No one was harmed and there was no damage to our client’s home or driveway.

March is known for St. Patrick’s Day and celebrating the “Luck of the Irish!”  That is all fun and makes this month one to look forward to, but do you want to leave your remodeling project to luck? We didn’t think so. Over the past few months Len McAdams and Mark Jensen have been teaching the community how to take control of their remodeling projects. Do you know what to plan for, what questions to ask or what documents should be utilized with your contractor? Having critical discussions and doing all necessary research prior to starting your project will lead you to a successful completion!  Here is a quick video of Len discussing the importance of selecting the right team. Earlier this month, Dale took a pizza making class at Tom Douglas’ “Serious Pie.” We don’t know about you, but it is exciting to think we have a “Tom Douglas” pizza chef in our midst! Dale, when will you be making us some pizza?

Time to apply some favorite ingredients

Dale chose Fennel Sausage, Roasted Garlic, Marinated Peppers, Sauteed Mushrooms with Tomato Sauce on one half and Olive Oil on the other for his ingredients. Cheese is not added immediately.

The pizzas are placed in an apple wood burning oven. When they are almost ready, they are removed and cheese is added. Dale added Picante Provolone and Buffalo Milk Mozzarella cheese to his. The pizzas are then placed back into the oven and baked to perfection!
